Meet Our Instructors
Over the years we have built one of the largest and most professional training teams in the industry with over 60 dedicated, full time safety trainers supporting United Academy augmented by 100’s of certified trainers and evaluators located in our branches throughout the US and Canada.
Gary’s goal is for everyone to utilize best safety practices at both work and home. With nearly four years in the equipment rental industry, he brings a well-rounded experience to his safety training courses. Gary is a certified American Heart Association First Aid/CPR instructor as well as a UA Certified Trainer on backhoes, skid steers, loaders, excavators, forklifts, and scissor and boom lifts. When he is not conducting training, he practices safety in his personal interests including motorcycle riding, restoring his old Corvette, and enjoying Jimmy Buffet music at the beach.
Branden is the Division Safety Trainer for the St Louis, Missouri area and has been with United Rentals since 2005. He has held many branch positions throughout United Rentals, he started in the wash bay, worked as a mechanic, driver, ISR, Operations Manager, OSR, Dispatcher and most recently took on the role as the Division Safety Trainer. Branden is currently a Core 4 Trainer. He says, “I have worked for United Rentals in many different roles but I believe that I have found my calling as a Division Customer Safety Trainer”.
As a Safety Champion, Branden has been a large part of the safety culture at United Rentals - implementing processes that work and engaging the team to be safe and healthy. Branden is married and has an eight year old daughter. In his free time Branden enjoys music, ATV adventures and boating.
Aaron Billings joined United Rentals in 2017 as a Division Safety Trainer. Prior to this he spent 15 years working in various positions in the Golf Course and Commercial Landscaping industries managing client relations, equipment purchasing and maintenance, and performing safety training for team members. His long experience leading maintenance and installation projects give Aaron a wide array of real life experiences to draw from. Along the way Aaron has become proficient in speaking Spanish and enjoys bridging communication gaps to make sure that all employees receive clear and high-quality safety training. Aaron is a UA Certified Trainer for counter balance, rough terrain forklifts, aerial boom lifts, scissor lifts, and fall protection. Aaron brings passion and enthusiasm to every class session.
When not in his work boots, Aaron enjoys spending time with his wife and son, preferably in the Outer Banks whenever possible. Aaron and his family reside in the West End of Henrico County, Virginia.
Frances has been a Safety Trainer with United Rentals since May of 2016. Fran started in the Equipment Rental Industry in 2001 and has held many positions including Dispatcher, Logistics Manager, Inside Sales Representative and ISR trainer. She decided to become a safety trainer to help her team and others learn how to be safe and prevent fatalities.
In her spare time Fran loves to spend time with her grandbabies.
Lee has been an active Certified Master Trainer for United Rentals since 2002. His concern for the safety of workers in our industry directed him on a career path towards the role of District Safety Officer for Northern California. Soon after, he was promoted to the position of Region Safety Manager for the Southwest Region. Mr. Braden also serves as a Faculty Member for the United Rentals American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center as well as an AHA Instructor.
Lee’s boots on the ground, or more importantly, his safety boots on the ground, real world experience spanning over three decades has resulted in the training experience, expertise and regulatory understanding he possesses today. His education, accomplishments and 30 plus years of industry experience also made him an ideal choice for lead subject matter expert during the creation the Core 4 online offering thru United Academy.
Lee resides near Sacramento, California with his wife and the younger daughter of two. The eldest daughter is married and lives nearby.
John joined the United Academy in June 2018 as a division trainer covering the mid-Atlantic region. John has been involved in the rental industry for 23 years. During this time, his responsibilities have included: inside sales, environmental safety, scaffolding and aerial lift training at the branch level in Upstate NY where he resides.
Drawing from his broad knowledge and background, life experiences and a passion to help others; he is able to share with customers real life practical examples to help them become safe operators thereby providing a safe work environment for all. And most importantly, leave the work site the same way they began their day. John is a Certified Ives trainer for Aerial booms, scissors, rough terrain forklifts and counter balanced forklifts.
His interests include: hiking, fishing, playing guitar, renovating his house, visiting his children and sharing his faith.
After graduating from St John’s University with a degree in computer science in 2001, Mike started his career in the construction industry as a Sales Coordinator. In 2004, he joined United Rentals and has held positions as an Internal Sales Rep, Parts Manager and Service Manager. Mike served as a branch and district Safety Champion for years. His passion for training enticed him to join the United Academy Training Team in a fulltime capacity and is now also qualified to teach operator training on forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts, excavators, backhoes, skid steers and wheel loaders. As a former Service Manager, he incorporates his vast knowledge of equipment and experience into his training classes.
When Mike is not training, you can find him running, biking, playing hockey or just spending time with his wife and two beagles where they reside in Aberdeen, NJ.
Henry retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. After leaving the Navy, Henry worked for two natural stone fabricators as their Logistics and Warehouse Manager. In 2011, Henry joined United Rentals and has worked in several positions including Inside Sales Rep, Operations Manager, Safety Champion and 5S Leader. Henry is certified to teach operator certification class on our Core 4® pieces of equipment to include counterbalanced forklifts, rough terrain forklifts, aerial boom lifts, scissor lifts and covers the Houston Metro Area.
Henry lives in Houston, TX with his wife and four children. When not busy with his son’s baseball or football teams, he enjoys fishing and golfing.
After owning his own service station business for many years, Peter joined RSC Equipment Rentals in 1999. In 2007 Peter was promoted to Region Safety Trainer and currently supports the development of the United Rentals corporate Safety Training Program. In 2008, he became a UA Certified Mobile Equipment Trainer and in 2012 became an Ives Certified Master Trainer. Peter is an approved MSHA Instructor as per the provisions of 30 CFR, Part 48, subpart B; he is also a Fall Protection trainer, American Heart Association First Aid/CPR instructor, Rigger/Signal person instructor and is qualified to certify both trainers and operators on multiple pieces of mobile equipment.
Peter’s 14 plus years of safety education and training experience have resulted in a thorough understanding of the various safety regulations in Canada and strong working relationships within the industry.
Peter was born and raised in Alberta, Canada and resides in Calgary with his wife and son. In his spare time he enjoys time with his family in the mountains and traveling abroad.
Alan has been with United Rentals for 12 years. He spent 11 years as a Service Technician in Herndon, VA, where he worked on aerial equipment, such as JLG, Skyjack, Genie, MEC, & Teupen lifts. As a trainer, Alan brings a unique perspective into his classroom because of his experience as a service technician. Alan is a certified trainer in aerial, forklift, excavator, skid-steer, backhoe, & front-end loader equipment, and also fall protection.
Russell just joined United Rentals in June 2015 as the Regional Safety Trainer for Oklahoma and Arkansas. As a Regional Safety Trainer, Russell is responsible for teaching and enforcing branch and operator safety. Russell’s background is very diverse, but his passion lies within Safety, making sure everyone goes home in the same condition as when they arrived that day. He has been a Regional Safety Trainer in the Oil & Gas Industry, a Construction site Superintendent, and has managed restaurants and fitness centers around the country.
In his spare time, he likes working on his 90 year old home and playing with his two Labrador Retrievers.
Rod joined United Rentals as a Trainer for the Midwest District in February 2015. Passionate about Safety, Rod has 39 years of Medical, Construction, Industrial, and Safety Management experience.
Along with a degree in Law Enforcement, Rod’s background includes being a Police Officer, a Paramedic, and a Health Safety and Environmental Manager. His certifications include NSC First Aid/CPR, AED Instructor; Construction Health Safety Technician BCSP CHST; Safety Trained Supervisor – BCSP STS; Authorized OSHA Outreach Trainer & Work Zone Flagger Instructor. He is a member of: American Society of Safety Engineers and the Builders Association Safety group of Kansas City.
Residing in Kansas City with his beautiful wife of 40 years, Rod has two children and 8 grandchildren and is passionate about all of them and their activities. He also finds time to play golf with his wife and be involved with his Church. As a trainer, Rod has the unique opportunity to share his experience, knowledge and passion for safety to help educate and prevent injuries one person at a time.
Ryan is a Division Safety Trainer in the Northeastern Region and is responsible for training in the Greater Toronto Area and east towards Kingston. Ryan joined United Rentals in 2020 bringing with him 10 years of equipment training experience.
Ryan is certified to train operators on Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (Boom and Scissor lifts), Counterbalance Forklifts, Telehandlers. Skid Loaders and Bucket Trucks. Ryan is also a certified instructor of Ontario’s Working at Heights program.
Ryan resides in Pickering with his wife Caitlyn and dog dyson. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his friends and family, getting out on the water whenever possible.
Suzette is a Division Safety Trainer for the East Region which includes Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Her career with United Rentals started in 2001 in the Highway Tech Division where she was able to expand her safety training experience and knowledge working side by side with NYDOT Resident Engineers. Suzette continues her career with the General Rental and Aerial Divisions United Rentals Inc expanding hands on equipment knowledge. Suzette is a Certified Trainer on Forklifts (class 4,5 &7), Aerial Working Platforms and Fall Protection. To enhance real time knowledge related to the Construction Industry she attends conventions and symposiums regularly to stay proactively current with new OSHA policies and regulations. Suzette holds a TWIC access card for shipyards and military bases.
Suzette’s passion for safety has a contagious effect. She takes great pride in student’s safety and well-being. Suzette will bring real life stories and visual aids to connect with her students of all learning capabilities. She encourages questions and class participation to make training interesting and related to the customer’s work.
Suzette was born and raised in New England and currently she resides in the Greater Boston area. She loves the Patriots & Red Sox. Most of all she enjoys outdoor activities with her family and friends.
Matt has been providing equipment operator training for United Rentals since 2011. In 2015 he was promoted to Pacific West Region Customer Safety Trainer. Matt is qualified to train First Aid/CPR/AED, MSHA New Miner and MSHA 8-hour Annual Refresher. Matt became a UA Certifed Master Trainer in 2015 and is qualified to train operators and trainers on multiple pieces of mobile equipment including: Counterbalance and Rough Terrain Forklifts, Aerial Boom and Scissor Lifts, Skid Steers, Backhoes, Front End Loaders, and Excavators.
Matt is based out of Hesperia, CA and responsible for customer and employee training throughout Southern California and Arizona.
Prior to joining United Rentals in 2002, Matt provided training in several capacities as a member of the Air Force where he oversaw training of new Airmen on various computer systems as well as standard safety operations. He has served as Branch Safety Champion for United Rentals for several years and believes that safety can truly save lives.
Matt enjoys spending his free time swimming and boating on the Colorado River with his wife and their 2 children.
Matthew is from Greenville, South Carolina and is finishing his degree in Business Administration from Purdue University. Matthew began working in the industry in 2018 and prior to that, worked for Greenville County as a Financial Customer Service Coordinator.
In his free time, he likes to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family and two dogs. He enjoys attending sporting events and also likes to play golf and ice hockey. Matthew is also the Zamboni operator for the Greenville Swamp Rabbits professional hockey team.
Yvonne has served in various positions including Safety Administrative Support, Safety Facilitator, and Safety Trainer in the Power, Oil & Gas, and Refinery industries since 2008.
Yvonne joined United Rentals in 2015 as the District Safety Trainer for the San Antonio/Laredo TX area. She is a UA Certified Instructor for the following equipment; Boom lift, Scissor lift, Counterbalance forklift, Rough terrain forklift, Skid steer, Excavator, Loader backhoe and Front loader; Certified H2S Instructor and PEC Safe Land Safe Gulf Instructor.
Yvonne enjoys meeting new people, cooking for family & friends, photography, the beach, is a big Spurs fan and loves keeping up with college football.
Max started with United Rentals in 2015 as a Sales Associate, then progressing to Sales Representative. He then started Serving as a Division Trainer in the Mid-Atlantic Region 2018.
Max is a UA Certified Trainer qualified to train on all aerial equipment, rough terrain, counter balanced and narrow isle forklifts, pallet jacks, skid steers, loaders, backhoes, and excavators. He is also qualified to train half full day fall protection courses in addition to being a trainer of United Academy Evaluators.
He has a passion for teaching and learning and brings his positive attitude and energy to the classroom in an effort to make our communities safer. Max has a reputation for being thorough and enjoys working with customers and other United Rentals employees
In his free time he enjoys surfing, cycling, exploring, and travel.
Seth started working for United Rentals in 2010 and has held positions as both an Inside Sales Rep and Dispatcher in Columbia, MO. He has been a certified trainer for boom lifts, scissor lifts, counter balance forklifts and rough terrain forklifts since 2013. In 2015, he accepted a fulltime training position with the South Division covering the Kansas City and Kansas districts.
In his spare time, Seth is a volunteer firefighter and EMT with his local fire district, and enjoys photography.
Bobbie J Elzy
Bobbie is a District Safety Trainer based in Texas City, TX. He has been working in the rental industry for over 40 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and hand on experiences to his classroom. Bobbie is an Ives Certified Mobile Equipment Trainer and a UA Certified Master Trainer qualified to teach operators and prospective trainers on aerial boom and scissors lifts, counterbalance and rough terrain forklifts, skid steers, wheel loaders, mini-excavators, track excavators, backhoes, carry deck cranes, rigging and signal person, as well as first aid and CPR.
As a trainer he shares his enthusiasm, knowledge, experience and deep concern for everyone he trains. Bobby takes great pride in the students’ safety and well-being.
Bobby spends his free time with his wife, two daughters and their families and is very involved with his church and loves to watch a good game of basketball or football.
Blair has had a passion for teaching and has played a key role in safety since joining the United Rentals family in 2016. He is qualified to train on our Core 4 equipment and is a Certified Evaluator for our Core 4 Blended programs.
He offices out of our Des Moines, IA branch and covers Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota markets.
Blair was born and raised in New Zealand where he got his degree in teaching. He taught English in South Korea for six years and was introduced to his now wife who is from the Midwest. They both decided to finish up in Korea and moved back to the States. They settled in Marshalltown, IA where his wife runs an Interior Design Company with her mother.
Outside of work Blair and his wife volunteer at the local animal shelter helping the staff maintain the facility and assist with the animals. They also enjoy travelling with a lot of trips back to New Zealand to visit his family. Blair enjoys rugby, having played it for years.
After a 25 year career as a CDL driver in the construction equipment rental business, Norm joined United Rentals 1998. In 2011 Norm became the Safety Officer at the Stoney Creek Ontario branch and soon became the Safety Awareness Trainer for our customers and employees.
Norm is a UA Certified Mobile Equipment Trainer, and qualified to also teach Fall Protection. He is also a Workplace Safety and Insurance Board certified Safety Committee member.
Norm’s vast knowledge and experience within the industry and with United Rentals makes him an ideal trainer for our employees and customers. His hands on experience with various rental equipment allow him to tailor the class to the specific needs of his students and the applications within their scope of work. He is a preferred trainer for a number of our customers, and is frequently recommended to other customers by his trainees. Norm has a reputation for being thorough yet approachable and down to earth.
In his spare time Norm enjoys golfing, watching documentaries on the Learning Channel, travelling, and spending time with family and friends.
With more than 20 years of sales experience behind him, Mark joined United Rentals in 2008 as an Outside Sales Representative with our Sarnia, Ontario branch.
In 2017, Mark decided to follow his passion for training and transitioned into a new role as a Division Safety Trainer.
He is currently a certified Core-4 trainer for Aerial Boom lifts, Scissor lifts, Counterbalance and Rough Terrain forklifts.
Mark’s many years of sales and training experience allows him to deliver customer focused training with an inviting, professional approach.
In his free time, Mark enjoys camping and DIY projects, but especially enjoys family time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Joe Gagne is a Division Safety Trainer for the East Region and is responsible for training in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Joe joined United Rentals in 2016 as an Inside Sales Representative and quickly gravitated towards his current role by becoming a part time certified trainer and evaluator in June of 2017.
When Joe isn’t training he spends his time as avid outdoor enthusiast - hiking, downhill skiing and white water rafting. Joe resides in Southern Maine with his partner Emily and their sweet loving dog Laurel.
Martin Garcia Jr.
Martin is going on 8 years in the construction business and has safety experience from his previous job as a safety champion in transportation and warehousing. He is certified to train all the Dirt, Aerial, and Forklift equipment.Since he was a driver and dispatcher for 3 years each, he brings a unique perspective into the classroom.Martin enjoys making his classes fun with the cooperation of the students and their stories to get them relaxed so they can leave with a little more knowledge about safety. His interests include dancing and singing mariachi music.
Jim has been in the rental business since 2001. He has served as an Inside Sales Rep, Outside Sales Rep, Operations Manager, Safety Officer and has been a Certified Trainer since 2008, becoming a full time Division Trainer in November of 2017. He has been around tools and equipment since his teenage years and uses his vast experience to train customers. He provides training on Booms, Scissors, Rough Terrain Forklifts, Counterbalance Forklifts and Fall Protection. He is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and covers the Wisconsin State for Customer Training and Branch support.
Jim has two adult children and in his spare time enjoys hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and home improvement projects.
Diego joined United Rentals in 2005 as a technician in Annapolis, MD. Shortly thereafter, Diego was promoted to an Inside Sales Representative position and became a First/Aid instructor and Facility Safety Champion. Diego is currently a fulltime safety trainer for United Academy based in Annapolis covering Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC and Northern Virginia and qualified to teach equipment operator certification courses.
Prior to joining United Rentals in 2005, Diego worked as a Warehouse forklift operator and floor manager for five years with an impeccable safety record.
Kris Graham joined United Rentals Trench Safety in 1999 as an Outside Sales Representative working with the various shoring systems and was involved with projects from just a few feet deep to 80 feet underground. He was involved in the development of the Excavation Training Program that United Rentals uses today. Kris has always thought teaching the OSHA Standards was an important component of a good safety program and he became a full-time Customer Training Specialist for the Trench Safety Division 3-years ago. This has allowed him to train in over 30-states.
Literally starting from the ground up in the construction industry, Kris was hired as a pipe layer 35 years ago. In 1985, the pipeline company had a fatal trench cave-in that OSHA used as one of the case studies to develop the Sub Part-P Excavation Standard. The cave-in had a big impact on Kris and is a large part of why he believes so strongly in the importance of safety training.
Kris is certified to train Competent Person for Excavation Safety, Confined Space Entry and 10 and 30 hour classes through the OSHA Institute.
In his free time, Kris enjoys taking their motorhome out with friends and family to ride dirt bikes and ATVs in Colorado and Utah. On weekends he still enjoys working on his ‘65 Mustang and going out for a drive with his wife of 3 years.
Michael entered the rental industry with United Rentals, Inc. in 2016 as a Class A Tractor Trailer Driver. He became a United Academy trainer in 2020 brining his vast knowledge of safe equipment operation. Michael also has more than 10 years of experience as an NRA Pistol Instructor and Maryland State Police Certified Concealed Carry Instructor. Michael is certified to train: Counter-balance forklift, Rough Terrain Forklift, Scissor lift, Boom, Skid Steer, Wheel Loader, Backhoe, Excavator, MEWP Supervisor and Traffic Control.
Michael is a military veteran and married to Buffy. They have three children Josh, Eric, and Miranda. Josh and Eric are serving in the US military and Miranda is a safety supervisor for a large logistics company.
Bob joined United Rentals as a Corporate Safety Trainer in 2010 after a 31 year career in telecommunications sales and project management followed by two years as Manager, Special Projects for an international uranium mining company. Bob is an approved MSHA Instructor as per the provisions of 30 CFR, Part 48, subpart B; he is also a Fall Protection trainer, American Heart Association First Aid/CPR instructor, and is qualified to certify both trainers and operators on multiple pieces of mobile equipment.
Bob’s background in project management and training experience in the areas of effective speaking, team building, coaching, safety, and diversity make him a welcome addition to the corporate safety training team.
Bob resides in Saskatchewan, Canada with his wife and dog named Ali. In his spare time he enjoys spending time at his lake cottage during the summer months and throughout the long cold Canadian winter he organizes and plays hockey in various leagues.
Diana has worked in the Oil and Gas Industry and Refineries since 2006. Prior to pursuing her passion for Safety Training, she worked as a Safety Professional, Electrical Department and served as an Attendant in Confined Space operations. Throughout her career Diana has served in numerous Safety positions and has accumulated OSHA Certifications to train workers in various Safety Courses and OSHA courses.
Diana has established credentials from the ICTP (Instructor Certification Training Program) and received from the National Center for Construction Education and Research board her Construction Site Safety Masters Certification in 2015 for the Southeast, TX region. Diana enjoys helping in community services and spending time with family and friends. She has a granddaughter and a grandson on the way.
Victor Hernandez joined United Rentals in 2016 as a District Trainer for the Southeast, having been in the construction industry for over 30 years. As an OSHA Authorized Construction Trainer, Victor’s background includes experience in Landfill Closure, Underground Utilities, and all phases of Construction. He teaches our Excavation Safety for Competent Persons, Confined Spaces in Construction, OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Outreach classes in both Spanish and English.
Previously Victor worked at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on renovations of concourse C and D, new construction of CONRAD (consolidation of rental cars and parking building) and the new International concourse. He also was the Assistant Safety-Manager for Austin-HITT JV on the renovation of Charleston International Airport.
A fan of all of South Florida Sports teams (Heat, Marlins, Dolphins, Hurricanes), Victor loves to fish, and is a Salsa dance instructor in his spare time.
Nicole Gould Howard has an extensive background in safety. As a paramedic firefighter for fifteen years, she functioned as safety officer on numerous emergency incidents. She is trained in structural fire control, hazardous materials, confined space rescue, trench rescue, and specialized rope rescue. She was Clayton County Fire and Emergency Services Paramedic of the Year in 2009 and in 2010 was named the Georgia EMS Region 3 Paramedic of the Year. She discovered a passion for training as an American Heart Association CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor. Many years of responding to emergency incidents sparked a passion for safety, and she changed her focus to prevention of injuries. She decided to pursue a career in Occupational Safety and Health. She obtained an Associates of Science degree and is currently completing a Bachelor of Science. She obtained OSHA 30 and OSHA 510 certification, and Safety Trained Supervisor in Construction and Construction Health and Safety Technician certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). She lives in Atlanta with her husband. She enjoys bad movies, music, and traveling and has visited ten countries on three continents so far. She loves animals and has two cats and one dog, all rescues.
Jason has been with United Rentals Trench Safety for 2 years. Jason was a military veteran spending 10 years in the Navy and was hired and brought onboard through United Rentals Military outreach program. Prior to United Rentals Jason worked as a fireman and EMT for ten years, at that time he also taught Confined Space Rescue and Trench Rescue.
When Jason is not teaching he spends his time with his wife Carrie and 3 children (Maddie, Jacob & Jace) they enjoy Traveling and Off-Roading around California.
Cal entered the rental industry in 2011 and served as an Inside Sales Rep, Safety Champion, and 5S Leader. Through these positions he developed a keen interest in safety training and became a United Academy Certified Evaluator and subsequently a Certified Trainer. At his home branch in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan Cal introduced many local customers to the United Academy training program teaching aerial, forklift, dirt, and fall protection operator certification courses.
Away from work, Cal enjoys spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Bill started with United Rentals in 2004. He has held several positions including: Inside Sales Representative, Safety Officer and handled the Disneyland Account for 2 years based at the park. Bill is now based out of our Montclair, CA location where there is a strong emphasis on training. Bill earned his Certified Trainer certification, and can train operators for aerial boomlift, scissor lift, counterbalance forklift and rough terrain forklift.
Bill enjoys working with people to make sure they are safe and trained properly. Bill brings sales experience and training experience into his new position. Bill has been married for 19 years and has 2 wonderful children. He enjoys spending time with my family and traveling.
Teri has been with United Rentals for 15 years. During that time she has served as the branch Safety Champion and First Aid officer. She has been training customers and employees for 10 years. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge and sharing it with our customers. Teri can train operators for aerial boomlift, scissor lift, counterbalance forklift and rough terrain forklift.
Teri loves animals and cares for 2 dogs and 2 cats at home in Charlotte NC. She enjoys restoring furniture, vacationing at the beach and volunteering for a charity that builds pens for dogs to free them from chains.
Jim joined United Rentals in 2002 as a CDL A driver in Branch 190 in Brampton Ontario. He has a strong commitment to safety and served as a branch safety champion and safety committee member for several years. Jim became a part-time Certified Safety Trainer and Evaluator in 2014 and was promoted to the full time Division Safety Trainer position in 2016 - supporting the Ontario area in eastern Canada.
Jim demonstrates his commitment to safety in every class and places a strong emphasis on safe operating procedures and best practices. Jim is approachable and understanding of different skill levels of his students which helps them feel comfortable to ask questions and participate. He is certified trainer for Aerial Boom lifts, Scissor lifts, Forklifts (Class 1, 2,3,4,5 and 7) Dirt Equipment (Skid Steer, Backhoe, Excavator and Wheel loaders) as well as Fall Protection Working at Heights (Ontario).
In his spare time Jim enjoys spending time with his family, fishing and playing hockey.
Kelly has been with United Rentals since 2013, starting off in Centralized Dispatch and then Operations Manager in the New Orleans Metro area.
Kelly is a Certified Trainer and Certified Master Trainer in Counterbalance and rough terrain forklifts, boom and scissor lifts, skid steer, excavators, front end-loaders, utility carts and can also train on signal person.
She is married with 4 kids in a blended family. I work mainly in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans markets. Kelly graduated from LSU and worked in advertising, marketing before I started my 19 year career in the casino business. I made the major decision to completely change my career when coming to United Rentals and have never regretted a day!
Renee joined the United Rentals team in 2006 with 14 years of healthcare related experience. During her United Rentals tenure, she has worked in the Pump Power & HVAC, Aerial, and General Rental divisions in various positions and with a multitude of key account customers. Renee currently serves as the Division Training Manager for the Southeast and Carolina Regions. Her knowledge and experience within the industry makes her an ideal Safety Trainer and allows her to tailor her training classes to the specific needs of her students and the applications within their scope of work. Renee has a strong emphasis of making every training session informative and fun so everyone learns the importance of safety for home and work.
Renee enjoys spending time with her draft horses, salt water fishing and hunting with her husband.
Jeff Lobb joins United Academy after long career in the automotive industry supporting dealership service operations by leading a team of OEM Field Service Engineers. He has over twenty years of training experience encompassing automotive diagnostic hardware, automotive diagnostic software and office automation software. He is excited to bring his training experience to the construction sector and is quickly expanding his knowledge and sharing it with our customers. Jeff is certified to train operators for aerial boom lift, scissor lift, counterbalance forklift, rough terrain forklift, skid steers, front end loaders, excavators and back hoes. He is also certified to train MEWP Supervisors and Flaggers and Traffic Control.
Jeff enjoys spending time with his family when he is not on a soccer field refereeing, teaching or mentoring youth soccer referees
Mike joined the United Rentals team in 2014 and served as an Inside Sales Rep and Purchasing Agent at the Annapolis, Maryland branch. Mike came to United Rentals from the airline industry where the safety of both passengers and crew were his number one priority. He is a certified trainer and evaluator on boom and scissor lifts, all seven classes of forklifts, skid steers, front end loaders, excavators and backhoes. He has a strong passion for all things safety and helping others through education.
Mike enjoys spending his free time with his family, going to concerts and rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals and the Maryland Terrapins.
Ric started with United Rentals in 2011 and served in several branch positions of increased responsibility prior to becoming a West Division trainer in 2015. Ric’s experience in his different branch roles provided him with the insights and experience to provide training to hundreds of operators since 2012.
Ric is a trainer of Core 4 equipment including Boom Lifts, Scissor Lifts, Counterbalance and Rough Terrain Forklifts as well as dirt equipment including Skid Steers, Excavators, Loader Back Hoes and Front End Loaders. Ric is also certified to provide Fall Protection training.
Ric spends his spare time camping, playing baseball and rooting for the Jets, Jays and Bombers.
Dennis joined United Rentals in 2013 as an Inside Sales Representative in the greater Chicago area. Since then, in addition to working in the Parts Department, he was a branch Safety Champion and United Academy Certified Evaluator. In 2015 he was promoted to Regional Safety Trainer. Dennis has over nine years of experience in the car and heavy equipment rental industry’s during which he developed a passion for teaching safe equipment operations. Being a Regional Safety Trainer, Dennis taps into his earlier academic career to become a history teacher and is able to incorporate effective teaching methods into his programs to reach students of various backgrounds.
In his leisure time, Dennis enjoys baking pies and playing various sports such as tennis, soccer, and basketball.
Hope has been with United Rentals since 1999. She has held various positions within United Rentals and is currently a Division Safety Trainer based out of Martinez, CA.Hope is a Core 4 Trainer providing training on Booms, Scissors, Rough Terrain Forklifts, and Counterbalance Forklifts. She will conduct classes in Spanish and English, with safety as her #1 priority.
During her spare time, Hope likes to spend time with her daughters and her granddaughter. Hope likes traveling to new places - anywhere by the water, with a good book and friends.
Chris McNealy has been with United Rentals since 2015. He started on the wash pad and quickly moved to a mechanic role where he advanced his equipment knowledge. He also served as the District Safety Champion and Certified Evaluator. He believes this gives him an edge of diving into the classroom because he has been in the field. Safety has always been a top priority with him, what is most important is that he can share that with others. Chris specializes in Core 4 training in the Gulf Coast area, and is dedicated to giving each class his personal best.
Chris enjoys outdoor activities and volunteering within the community whenever he has free time. He looks forward to seeing you in the classroom.
Jeff joined United Rentals in 2008 as an Inside Sales Representative in the Dallas Ft Worth area. Since then he has served as an Outside Sales Representative and District Safety Coordinator. Prior to joining United Academy Jeff had over 20 years of experience in sales, operations management and real estate. As a Safety Coordinator, Jeff was responsible for teaching and enforcing branch safety. During those years he developed a passion for training operators for both United Rentals and its customers to a higher level of understanding of equipment and safe operation. Today, Jeff is a full time safety trainer for United Academy serving the state of Texas.
Jeff is married to Jo and has 6 children and 12 grandchildren. Jeff enjoys photography, woodworking and travel.
Luiz joined United Rentals in 2013. He started with Customer service and was quickly promoted to the National Accounts team, Luiz is now the Safety Division Trainer for the city of champions, Tampa Bay! He has earned his Certified Trainer certifications, and can train operators for aerial boom lift, scissor lift, counterbalance forklift, rough terrain forklift and more. Luiz has 11 years of construction experience prior to working for United Rentals. He has worked as an Iron Worker and Boilermaker fitting, fabricating and welding out in the field.
In his free time Luiz enjoys watching basketball, riding his motorcycle around town and checking out the local cigar lounges as Tampa is also well known as the Cigar City!
Kevin has nearly 30 years of experience in the construction rental industry. During that time he spent 20 years as a service tech and supervisor and 3 years as a sales representative. He also spent 8 years as a part time environmental health and safety coordinator and over 4 years as a full time safety education trainer.
Kevin has been married for 26 years and has grown children. He enjoys boating, hiking and golf, when he finds the time, in the Adirondack mountains of upstate NY.
Patricia has been with United Rentals since 2017, and has held positions within United Rentals as Division Safety Trainer, Inside Sales, Dispatcher, and served as the Safety Champion for multiple locations. Prior to joining United Rentals, she spent the previous 14 years working in Safety, Logistics, and Transportation Management. She is a U.S. Army Veteran, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from California State University – Fresno. Patricia is also a Youth Mentor at the local Juvenile Justice Campus.
She is bilingual and can provide Bilingual-English/Spanish training for Aerial Boom lifts, Scissor Lifts, Counterbalanced, Vertical Mast, and Rough Terrain Forklifts. She likes to focus on reaching students at their level of need and provides training with fun, support and open communication. Patricia is based in Fresno, Ca and supports the Central Valley and Northern California areas.
In her spare time she enjoys attending concerts, outdoor cooking, gardening, and listening to rock and classical music. She has been married for 15 years and has three teenage sons.
Kurt joined United Rentals in 2020 as a Division Safety Trainer located in Minnesota. Prior to joining United Academy Kurt had over 15 years of experience as a safety and manufacturing manager. In the classroom, Kurt likes to relate to workers and trainees from their view using his previous safety management experience and likes to break down the barriers that make learning difficult. He is certified to train on Counterbalance and Rough Terrain Forklifts and Boom and Scissor Lifts.
Kurt likes to spend his free with his family and is also a high school assistant wrestling coach in the winter.
Matthew H. Owen
Matthew is a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in Marketing. He began his career in the heavy equipment industry in 2004 growing from an inside rental consultant and parts manager position to service manager prior to becoming a regional trainer. Matthew is currently a Corporate Safety Trainer serving the needs of the U.S. and Canada. Matthew is a UA Master Trainer for forklifts, aerial lifts, earthmoving equipment, and cranes. He is also certified to teach Fall Protection, Rigging and Signaling, The American Heart Association for First Aid/ CPR, and MSHA 30 CFR Part 48.
Matthew resides in Louisiana and enjoys camping, fishing, family time with his wife and two children, and working on old cars.
Tim has been with United Rentals since 2004 and has been a UA Certified Trainer for over 10 years. He is also a UA Certified Master Trainer.
Tim has an extensive background in equipment service. As a factory trained technician he is qualified to maintain, troubleshoot and repair any and all machines that United Rentals rents. This, combined with his service manager experience mentoring mechanics, allows him to help trainees better understand how the service aspects of equipment affect their operational skills.
Tim’s goal is to make his classes entertaining and informal and it’s important for him to get to know his students in order to conform his teaching around their individual job and level of expertise. His extensive knowledge of machinery is a huge asset in his current role as Regional Safety Trainer. Upon completion of the training course, his students are prepared to efficiently perform their jobs with increased safety and effectiveness, while decreasing liability exposure to themselves and their employer.
In his free time Tim enjoys auto racing, softball and riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
After spending over ten years in the military, Austin received a degree in Theology and began a career in heavy equipment. After working his way through the ranks from service manager to branch manager he was bitten by the safety calling in 1996 and was continuously promoted to his current position as District Safety Trainer.
Austin is a UA Certified Trainer Mobile Equipment trainer and a Certified Master Trainer. His many years of experience in safety and mobile equipment training help operators acquire the knowledge and training needed to operate equipment safely and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Austin is originally from Alabama but currently resides in Houston Texas with his wife and two of his three children; the oldest is serving his country in the Air Force. He enjoys playing golf every chance he gets, cooking and spending time with his family and friends.
Eric has been with United Rentals Trench Safety division for fourteen years initially serving as an outside sales representative and the last 6 years as a District Trainer. He was a part of the team that developed the first URTS Confined Space course. He was also a team member with the group that developed the Confined Space in Construction course currently in use. Prior to his career in trench safety, Eric was an EMT Advanced Life Support provider for five years and a Teaching Assistant for the EMT program at a junior college for eight years. Using that prior experience has been helpful being able to partner with Fire Training officers and offer Excavation/Trench Rescue Competent Person for Fire Departments.
Eric was authorized to train Competent Person for Excavation Safety, and Confined Space Entry classes through the OSHA Institute of San Diego. He is also an authorized outreach instructor for both OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 along with the Cal OSHA 10 hour course.
Living in California with his wife, he has four children and three grandchildren and chocolate lab, he enjoys volunteering in his community, playing softball, camping and anything else outdoors-related.
Rick joined United Rentals-Trench Safety in January 2018 supporting the Mid-Central District based in Indianapolis, IN. Prior to joining United Rentals, Rick has been in the Equipment Rental Industry since 1998 as a Rental Coordinator, Sales Representative, Branch Manager, and Region Process Improvement Manager. During that time, he routinely conducted Aerial and Forklift Operator training. Rick is a Six Sigma Green Belt, and is formally trained in Lean Manufacturing Techniques. Rick earned his B.A. in Communications from Eastern Illinois University and has a passion for educating and training and currently instructs Excavation Safety Training for Competent Persons (CPT), Confined Space Entry Training (CSE) OSHA 10-Construction, and Flagger Certification.
When not conducting classes, Rick enjoys hockey, baseball, football, and singing with his wife as an acoustic duet.
After finishing college, Jeff took his first job in the rental industry in 1992. He started working in the wash bay and worked up to the back counter, front counter, sales, and then management. He has 26 years in the rental industry.
In 2008, Jeff started a new job with a construction company as an equipment manager, sourcing out equipment, building products and setting up jobs with personnel and equipment. This position gave him a new perspective as he was now the customer. While he enjoyed the job, the rental industry was still in his heart, and he soon returned to the rental industry.The opportunity to train came up and he soon completed certified Ives trainer courses. He describes safety training as his passion has now been training students for 15 years. Jeff truly enjoys his job and the ability to live in a safety culture.
Jeff is also working towards his NCSO and Occupational Health and Safety certification. He strives to improve on his training and ensures customers are well trained with safety as a way of life.
Kelly started his love of equipment at the age of 5 when he started driving tractors on the family farm. In 2005 he turned his attention to operator training. 2018 Kelly completed the University of Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Certificate program and join the United Academy team in 2019.
Kelly trains in Central and Northern Alberta and is certified to train on Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (Booms and Scissors), Rough Terrain Forklifts, Counterbalanced Forklifts, Skid Steer Loaders, Energy Safety Canada’s Fall Protection, Fall Protection Groups Comprehensive Fall Protection & Essentials Courses as well as Energy Safety Canada , formally OSSA, Fall Protection.
Kelly enjoys football, both CFL and NFL, movie, music and travelling.
Gary started his career in the equipment rental industry in 1988 in St. Louis, MO. His variety of roles and extensive background afforded him the opportunity to speak at multiple Powered Access (i.e., Booms & Scissors) related events both nationally and internationally. The events include the (SAIA) Scaffold & Access Industry Association, the (IPAF) International Powered Access Federation, and many state and local events such as the Georgia Health & Safety Conference.
Gary has also aided the (DOL) Department of Labor in accident investigations and upon occasional request by the DOL would bring his nearly three decades of experience to expose the hazards, safe use, and best practices of Powered Access to many state and Federal Departments.
In 2015, at the (IAPA) International Awards for Powered Access in Washington D.C., Gary was short listed for International Instructor of the year. He is currently certified to train on Core 4, Excavation, and Fall Protection.
When Gary is not dodging Hurricanes- he spends his time with his wife and bassett hound in Central Florida known as Margaritaville.
After years in the medical industries, Jason decided to enter the equipment industry with United Rentals in 2005. He started in an inside sales rep position where he learned the rental business and equipment. A few years later, Jason got involved in safety and became well versed in the OSHA safety regulations as they pertain to the construction industry. Deciding that he wanted to teach others what became his passion, Jason became a UA Certified Trainer in 2011 for aerial boom and scissor lifts, and counterbalanced and rough terrain forklifts. He has also added backhoes, excavators, skid steers, front end loaders, and more forklift classes to his arsenal.
Jason’s experience using various makes and models of equipment allows him to train not only the basics of safe equipment operations, but how the models differ from one another, their different safety features, and real life stories to bring the training to life.
Jason is a true outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, kayaking, camping, and sports. He also loves spending time with family, friends, and his animals.
Brad joined United Rentals in December of 2011 as an equipment associate at our Brampton, ON location. Later he moved to branch E90 in Etobicoke, ON. During this time, Brad’s knowledge of the equipment grew as he had the opportunity to work both with technicians as well as customers. While in Etobicoke, Brad was able to nurture his growing passion for Health and Safety as Safety Champion and participating in the Joint Health and Safety Committee Meetings. In 2013 Brad became an Inside Sales Rep and later became a member of the Sales Support Team.
Brad’s time working with the equipment and with our customers will serve him well as he grows in his new role as Division Safety Trainer. He is currently a certified Core-4 trainer for Aerial Boom lifts, Scissor lifts, Counterbalance and Rough Terrain forklifts.
In his spare time Brad enjoys playing numerous sports, going on camping trips with his family and DIY (Do It Yourself) projects.
Finn started his career with United Rentals in 2016 as an Inside Sales Representative in the Annapolis Maryland branch. He quickly became a Safety Champion as well as CPR certified. He comes from the automotive industry where he served as a Lead Service Advisor and led his tech team to achieve several outstanding service, safety and quality awards.
He finds that being an instructor is as more then is more than just teaching material but it is also learning from students and finding new ways to impart the information so everyone gets the most out of his classes.
Finn covers the Baltimore Metro and surrounding Maryland areas and is qualified to train on Rough Terrain and Counterbalance forklifts and boom and scissor lifts.
Keith’s career in the equipment rental business spans over 18 years, and has included positions including store operations, management, and sales. His passion for training started in 2012, when he was awarded a position in United Rentals’ corporate training department. In this position he traveled the country training and supporting the deployment of our cutting edge dispatch and distribution hand held computer system. In 2013, he was awarded the position of Regional Trainer for customer safety in the Gulf South region.
Keith’s experience in the equipment business allows him the ability to relate to the challenges that mobile equipment operators face on a daily basis, and tailors his curriculum in an effort to drive home safety as it relates to their trade.
He is a UA Certified Trainer, providing training on all aerial equipment, rough terrain and counter balanced forklifts, as well as skid steers, loaders, backhoes, and excavators. He is also certified to provide rigging and signal person training.
Based out of the New Orleans metro area, Keith resides in Covington LA with his wife and three children and enjoys family time and watching his boys play sports.
Chris has been a driver with United Rentals since the beginning of 2017. He started off in the San Francisco Bay Area Metro branch before transferring out to be closer to home in 2018. Prior to United Rentals, Chris also delivered heavy equipment for a competitor for two years.
He was born and raised on a family owned dairy farm. On the family dairy he had multiple tasks and the most rewarding of them was teaching and exhibiting the proper use and safety of operating heavy equipment to all employees. He has a vast background and experience with operating equipment from forklifts to massive earth moving vehicles/equipment. Chris has a passion and love for equipment and safety! His priorities include knowing how to properly operate heavy equipment, keeping it running smoothly and going home safely to his family every day. Chris enjoys going camping and exploring the outdoors with his wife and son every chance they get.
Daniel joined the rental industry in 2006 and has been providing mobile equipment training for customers and employees since 2007. In 2013 he was promoted to the position of Mid-Atlantic Regional Customer Safety Trainer, and in 2017 to Training Manager – Mid Atlantic.
Daniel has been providing safety training, in some capacity, since joining the Navy in 1996 where he oversaw ship-board fire/flood training and maintenance on those systems. Daniel believes that safety training truly saves lives and improves productivity.
After an extensive series of trips and adventures around the world, Daniel calls “Wild and Wonderful” West Virginia home, where he was born. He enjoys time with family, friends and WVU Basketball.
Jim has worked in the construction industry for his entire thirty-five year working career.
He spent the first twelve years as a salesman and sales manager in the waterworks distribution business. He ended his distribution career as the waterworks product manager for Ferguson Enterprises in Northern Virginia.
He next worked for twenty-one years at the executive director for two regional construction trade associations and one national construction trade association. In this role he initiated and created many construction industry education, training, and safety programs for the associations he served.
Prior to joining United Rentals as a customer training specialist, he served for two years as the director of education and training for the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA).
Jim is certified as a trainer for NUCA’s confined space and competent person classes. He earned his OSHA-10 and 30 instructor certification for construction while at NUCA.
Jim is also certified as a “Traffic Control Supervisor” with the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA). He is certified by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to teach their temporary work zone safety classes and flagging.
Jim has worked for the past twenty years as an industry stakeholder with the Virginia State Corporation Commission’s (SCC) Division of Utility to develop the Virginia “Miss Utility” law. While working with other industry stakeholders, underground damages dropped from 4.5 damages per thousand tickets to under 1.0 damage per thousand tickets, making the Virginia Miss Utility process one of the most successful programs in the country.
Jim is a certified trainer for the Virginia SCC “damage control” class. This class is used by the Virginia Miss Utility Advisory Committee to educate contractors who have damaged underground utilities.
Lindsey Stephenson joined United Rentals in 2016, initially starting out as an Outside Sales Associate (OSA). She then transitioned to a Division Safety Trainer, where she is certified to train on Core 4, Dirt Core 4, Dozers, Trenchers, Bucket Trucks, Graders, Golf Carts and Ladders.
Lindsey is committed to each and every one of her customers and doesn’t want to just train them, but really have them understand why the training is important and how to implement their learnings in their daily life.
When Lindsey is not teaching, she enjoys hunting - hog hunting is her favorite type of hunting! She also enjoys spending time with my family. Fun fact – Lindsey was a former pageant queen where she held the titles of Miss Auburn USA and Miss Auburn/Opelika.
Jimmy has been in the construction industry for 48 years and started with United Rentals in 1996. He drove for the company for 20 years delivering equipment which gave him a lot of hands on experience. He moved into the office and among the titles he held was a branch safety trainer. In 2018, he became a Safety trainer for the Pacific West Region. He is certified to train for Boomlift, Scissor lift, Counterbalance forklift and Rough Terrain forklift, Bucket Truck, Core-4 dirt, and Fall protection. He is also a Certified Master Trainer.
In his time off not training, Jimmy enjoys spending time with his family, with his wife of 37 years, 1 Daughter and 1 grandson. He also enjoys being outside and shooting guns.
Jabari Tappin is a Division Safety Trainer for the Industrial Region and the South Division. He is a Certified Master Trainer on Core 4 Equipment and also a Certified Trainer and Evaluator on Core 4 and Core Dirt Equipment.
Jabari has earned a Bachelor of General Studies in Social Sciences and a Minor in History. He joined United Rentals in Shreveport, La in 2010; he later transferred to the Houston Metro District in 2012. He has held titles of Sr. ISR and Sales Associate, along with many other roles within the company. Jabari has been a Division Trainer since 2018. He also has experience teaching in the school system; he brings that same passion for teaching to his training courses. He loves to add high energy and enthusiasm to create an enjoyable learning experience.
Outside of work Jabari enjoys sports, fitness, golfing, and family time with his wife and son.
Bill has been an Equipment Safety Trainer for the last 13 years, both in Ft. McMurray and for the last 10 years in Calgary. He joined United Rentals in 2019.
Bill is certified to train on Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (Booms and Scissors), Rough Terrain Forklifts, Counterbalanced Forklifts, Skid Steer Loaders, Energy Safety Canada’s Fall Protection, Fall Protection Groups Comprehensive Fall Protection & Essentials Courses.
In his spare time, Bill enjoys getting out into the mountains nearby to do some hiking and fly fishing.
Wade started with United Rentals in 2014 as a Class A CDL driver with 8 years of previous experience hauling heavy equipment. He is certified to train the Core 4 courses, consisting of: counterbalance forklift, rough terrain forklift, and scissor and boom lifts. Wade is also certified to train on all dirt equipment and one of the only Certified Master Trainers in the southeast region to hold Train the Trainer courses. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, playing his guitar, listening to blues and taking care of his dogs. He also obtained my pilot license years ago to pilot private aircrafts.<
Isaac is a Division Safety Trainer based out of Chesapeake, VA. He has been with United Rentals for 3 years in the Construction Industry. Isaac began his career at Neff Rentals shortly after he became a part of the United Rentals family as an Inside Sales Representative & Safety Officer. Isaac has acquired knowledge of a broad range of different equipment pieces.
He has serviced our loyal customer base and increased knowledge for years. Isaac is a certified IVES Trainer and Operator for Forklift- Counter Balance, Rough Terrain Forklift, Boom lift, and Scissor lift. CTS Trainer and qualified operator for the following Dirt Equipment; which would include Wheel loader, Skid Steer, Backhoe, and Excavator. He is also qualified to instruct MEWP Supervisor and Flagger course.
Isaac brings engagement to the attendees with a positive attitude, presenting the course work with enthusiasm. This allows a comfortable learning environment assisting the students in retaining the material.
Isaac likes to spend his time fishing, traveling, outdoor paintballing, gaming, riding ATV’s, learning about the solar system, and science.
Steve Van Ee
Steve joined United Rentals in 2014; he started his career as an Inside Sales Representative in Cheyenne, WY. In 2015 Steve became a Certified Trainer and was transferred to his hometown, Grand Rapids, MI. Steve had many roles including branch Safety Champion and Equipment Associate where he learned a lot about operating equipment. Prior to joining United Rentals Steve served 11 years in the United States Air Force where he helped train troops in security operations and law enforcement.
In May 2017, Steve was promoted to Division Safety Trainer. He is certified to train operators on Counterbalance Forklift, Rough Terrain Forklift, Boom Lift, Scissor Lift, Narrow Aisle Forklift, Powered Pallet Jack, and Fall Protection. When not working. Steve enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family. They like to watch movies, play card games, and spend time with friends.
Holly joined United Rentals in 2007 in the Service Department as a Service Writer and has since also served as an Accounts Receivable, Parts Associate and Warranty Specialist. In 2013 Holly began serving as Safety Champion & Training Coordinator for our Ontario East District.
Holly is a Core 4 Certified Trainer and is a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee in Ontario, Canada. In early 2016 Holly was promoted to Divisional Safety Trainer for the East Division servicing the markets of Greater Southern Ontario.
Holly enjoys spending time with her family camping, boating, motorcycling and being at the lake.
Barry started his career in the rental industry over 20 years ago, having worked in several locations throughout Western Canada, and served in various positions from CDL Driver to Branch Manager. Barry is certified to teach operator training on various types of mobile equipment Including boom lifts, scissor lifts, rough terrain forklifts, counterbalanced forklifts, front end loaders, excavators, backhoe loaders and skid steers. He is also a certified National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) as well as Construction Safety Specialist (BCCSA).
These certifications coupled with his extensive industry experience allow him to approach teaching in a relaxed and professional manner.
When not working, he can be found on his Harley with his wife.
David joined United Rentals in 2015 as a Sales Associate in Indianapolis, Indiana and was given the added role of Safety Champion at his local branch where he found a passion for safety and hazard awareness. Formerly an elementary school teacher, David was used to “on the job hazards,” but of a different variety! David was able to deepen his sales experience and equipment knowledge through the United Rentals Sales Associate program by working with customers and selling used equipment. David was promoted to Division Safety Trainer in 2016 where he is able to tap into his teaching roots and energetically deliver instruction on a variety of equipment as well as fall protection.
In his free time David enjoys leading his family, wife Katie and daughter Lucy, in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, hammocking and going to church.
Angela joined United Rentals in 2020. She is passionate about workplace safety, and over the last 17 years she has traveled all over the United States working as a safety professional to develop, execute and maintain policies and procedures to provide a safe and healthy workplace. While working in mines, power plants, warehouses, construction and general industry workplace, she has forged a belief that training and experience is necessary to minimize the serious and predictable risk factors faced by workers every day.
She is a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals, an authorized trainer for OSHA and has trained over 3,000 students since 2003. Angela has her Advanced Safety Certification from National Safety Council University, and she is certified in Workplace Ergonomics from Ohio State University.
Angela and her husband Stuart, of 31 years, have two sons and enjoy spending time with their three grandkids and 3 English bulldogs on their ranch in Youngtown, Arizona.
